Art Contest

Each spring, VAV hosts an Art Contest for visually impaired students in the Garland Independent School District. Every participant receives an award for his or her entry, and additional prizes are given to the Grand Prize, First, Second, and Third place winners in each of the four categories: Secondary Unassisted, Secondary Assisted, Elementary Unassisted, and Elementary Assisted.

Select entries from previous years are on display at the VAV office.

Technology Olympics

VAV has been honored to participate in the Technology Olympics sponsored by the Region 10 Education Service Center since its inception in 1995. The competition provides visually impaired students in the Region 10 district an opportunity to showcase their skills in using various assistive equipment devices, such as the Slate & Stylus, the BrailleNote, Magnifier, Telescope, Computer, and even the Abacus. VAV's role in the event includes the preparation of all braille materials as well as participating as judges for the annual competition.
